COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed for those students who have not mastered knowledge and skills related to business technology applications prior to entry into high school and will assist students in developing technological proficiencies demanded by business.
Students are also prepared to work with word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing & presentation software applications in a career setting or for personal use using courseware that incorporates a step-by-step, project-based approach. COURSE OBJECTIVE: To provide a foundation in technology which will allow the students to excel in more advanced business courses and prepares them for entry level employment in the 21st Century. COURSE REQUIREMENTS: Each student must complete a professional portfolio containing examples of artifacts completed in class. Students are required to follow the dress code (see the Cody DIT Student Handbook) for entrance into class. All electronic devices must be undetectable during class unless otherwise directed. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to be involved in their student’s course work. Students will receive extra credit points when their parents attend scheduled Parent Teacher Conferences. Student Resources CD (provided with textbook) Internet Resource Center, www.emcp.net/BenchmarkOffice07, USB flash drive. Additional supplementary materials including the Internet web 2.0 tools, newspapers, magazines, workbooks, reference books, etc. will be used to enhance the learning process. STUDENT EXPECTATIONS: Students are to be on time with their supplies (pens, pencils, notebooks, textbooks and workbooks) and prepared to work all period every day. Students are to follow all instructions when completing assignments. Class participation and independent review, both in class and at home, are necessary for student achievement. Students must develop and/or use good listening, note taking, and employability skills to be successful in this class. |
In order to maintain an environment conducive to learning, the following rules have been established for all students:
ü Respect the teacher, your classmates and any visiting guests at all times. ü Do your best at all times by completing assignments correctly and neatly. ü Turn in all assignments on time. Late assignments are subject to penalties. ü Be seated in assigned seat when tardy bell rings and remain there until dismissed. ü No gum, food, outer wear, hats, jackets/coats (dress code), radios/headphones, beepers, or cell phones (electronics) allowed in the lab. ü If you notice anything out of the ordinary at your workstation you must report it to the teacher before you use the workstation. ATTENDANCE: The attendance policies of Cody DIT and Detroit Public Schools will be strictly adhered to. Good attendance is essential for success; therefore, it is imperative that students attend class on a consistent basis to maximize the learning process. Excessive absence and tardiness will result in a failing grade. ASSESSMENT: Evaluation will be based upon daily class assignments and participation, completed homework, quiz and test scores. All work must be submitted when due to receive full credit. Additional Rubrics will be developed with the students and used for grading on projects.
